I was 42 years old, sitting in a sterile office with my husband's hand in mine, when the oncologist said the words I'd feared my whole life. Stage 4. HER2 positive. Metastatic. I remember the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. I remember not being able to feel my feet.
What followed was the hardest two years of my life — surgeries, infusions, hair loss, bone pain, fear. But also something I didn't expect: community. Women who had walked this road before me, who texted me at 2am when I couldn't sleep, who told me the truth about what treatment really felt like.
Today I am in remission. I run half marathons. I watched my daughter graduate high school. I am not the same woman I was before diagnosis — I am stronger, more present, and more grateful than I ever thought possible.
Stage 4 is not a death sentence. It is a call to fight — and I answered.
